Our Bark Peelers’ event has brought us 50 years of skills, spills, sawdust, and slices of log cake. Enjoy a walk down memory lane with some of our favorite images from the past.

Highlighting woodhick skills has always been a big part of Bark Peelers’

Got to hit that bull’s-eye

The birling contest has been a part of the festival since the beginning
You need fancy footwork to stay on the log
Stop moving your feet and you end up in the pond
We’ve had some dramatic spills

A tobacco spitting contest was part of Bark Peelers’ for many years

The winner received a spittoon
Visitors can compete in the crosscut saw contest
Folks can also compete in log rolling
One of the most popular contests to watch is the greased pole
First you have to grease the pole
You then hit your opponent with a pillow
and hit your opponent
keeping hitting

until someone drops into the sawdust
Win enough contests and be crowned Grand Champion!
The frog jumping contest is always a favorite with kids

The museum provides the frogs
Kids often have to provide the motivation for the frogs to start jumping

An 8-foot log cake is served to visitors on the 2nd day of the festival
Cake assembly takes place before the big day
Got to put lots of frosting on!
What else would you use to cut a log cake with?

Once cut, everyone swarms for a piece

Chainsaw Carving
Smokey Bear
Live Music

Operating Sawmill
Log Skidding
Blacksmithing
A beard & mustache competition

The festival has got it all
Here’s to many more years of fun!
