The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum is nestled in the densely forested Allegheny high plateau region, near mile marker 188 between Galeton and Coudersport, Pennsylvania. The museum tells the story of the Commonwealth’s rich lumbering history and promotes the ongoing care, management, and recreational use of the forests. The Visitor Center contains the Challenges and Choices exhibit with interactive elements and historic tools and photographs. The outdoor exhibits include a 20th century logging camp, a Shay locomotive, and an operable circular sawmill. There is a lot to see and do on 160 acre property.

We are open year-round, but public hours change seasonally. Summer hours (Apr. 1 – Nov. 30): Wednesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Winter hours (Dec. 1 – Mar. 31): Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 10 Am to 4 PM. Group tours with advanced reservations can be scheduled on days outside of the museum’s regular hours of operation. Student Tours
Critical thinking and historical empathy are two of the many benefits of visiting a museum. Historical empathy, sensitivity to what life was like for people who lived in a different time and place, is honed on a tour of the historic lumber camp. Being observant is an important skill that students practice when they are introduced to a new tool or trail. Our staff is able and ready to get students excited about history and natural science!
